🕯️ How to Burn a Candle Properly: Candle Care 101

Lighting a candle seems simple - but getting the most out of your beautiful beeswax and  soy candles takes a little care. Whether you're new to natural candles or a seasoned slow-living enthusiast, this guide will help you enjoy a cleaner, longer, and safer burn.

🔥 1. Trim the Wick Every Time

Initially we provide you candles with wicks trimmed to the perfect height. However, before each burn, trim the wick to about 5mm. This helps:

  • Prevent high flames and soot
  • Ensure an even, controlled burn
  • Reduce smoke and mushrooming

🕳️ 2. The First Burn Sets the Tone

The first time you light your candle, let it burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edges - this creates a “memory ring” and helps prevent tunneling. For Nambi Home soy wax candles, this usually takes 1–2 hours. Rolled candles work a little differently in that their melt pool lusciously flows down the edges of the candles like lava down a volcano.

⏳ 3. Don’t Overburn

Avoid burning your candle for more than 3–4 hours at a time. Long sessions can:

  • Overheat the wax pool
  • Warp the shape of rolled candles
  • Increase the risk of wick instability

Let it cool between burns to preserve its shape and integrity.

🧼 4. Burn in a Draft-Free Area

Keep your candle away from open windows, fans, or air vents. Drafts cause uneven burning and excessive dripping - especially with beeswax.

🔒 5. Practice Safe Candle Habits

Always:

  • Place on a heat-resistant surface
  • Keep away from pets, children, and flammable objects
  • Never leave a candle unattended

💛 6. Embrace the Ritual

Burning a beeswax or soy candle is more than lighting a wick - it’s an act of mindfulness. Enjoy the soft honey scent of the beeswax, the native Australian scents of the soy wax, the gentle flicker, and the clean burn that comes from a truly natural product.
